Program Info

This program was designed with the core belief that greater representation means targeting all forms of inequality.

For us to truly be a mission led organisation, to truly embody Diversity in Action, we must target aegism. Our Editor in Chief and Co-Founder A. R. Arthur has known this ageism and has seen it directed to older writers as well.

To remedy this inequality, our Editors are proud to launch the completely free Fahmidan Annual Mentorship Program where we hope to be a refuge for Gen-Z in a community with lacking representation and a home for older writers who deserve every chance at success just as much as their younger counterparts.

Up to 10 Mentees will be selected! If you can't join due to other commitments, you can come back in September 2025 to sign up for the next round of our mentorship program!

This Mentorship comprises six sessions encompassing craft, generative exercises, and industry insights. These sessions are designed to:

Enhance mentees' personal writing practices.
Deepen their understanding of the literary landscape.
Explore pathways to publication.
Cultivate a sense of community and foster collaborative growth.

In addition to group sessions, each mentee will receive 1-2 personalized one-on-one sessions (30-45 minutes) with Editor-in-Chief A. R. Arthur.

The Submission & Editorial Process (Informational + Q&A)

Generating Poetry / Generating Flash Fiction & Short Fiction

2 sessions for each track, although mentees can join both.

Literary Mechanics (Generative, Collaborative & Informational)

How do we move from the working draft to a place where we are ready to share our work? How do we stay authentic in our voice when revising? What publications might care for our work and be a good fit? In this 75-minute session, Session mentor Rashna Wadia will offer writing prompts to guide the discussion, include a revision activity to help us reimagine the possibilities for your work, and provide a list of publications as a resource. Gain deeper insight into your own writing.

Becoming an Editor (Informational + Q&A)

Reading to Write (Informational + Q&A)

Before we put words to paper, we started with understanding the words of those who came before us. This workshop is aimed at untangling the threads of writing and finding their roots in the act of reading. This session will delve into an overview of different literary approaches to reading and how these can be incorporated into your writing in new and experimental ways.

To apply for this mentorship, the following requirements apply:

Be a member of Gen-Z or over 45 years of age.
Gen-Z is typically defined as 1997-2012 (for the purposes of this mentorship, we will only accept writers over the age of 18).
You must be a writer without a full length published and not be on an MFA program. The literary community is often quite closed to those without an MFA and great names like Robert Frost never posessed such a qualification. Therefore, we want to be open to those who may be unable to access such education due to all manner of means.
